Topic: On June 5, 2009, The Economic Development Association of New Jersey will present a discussion of new legislation which has created a Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) program at their quarterly membership meeting. Roxanne E. Jayne will join Commissioner Mark Mauriello of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection in dicsussing the impact this will have on economic development as it relates to job creation, increased tax revenues for municipalities as sites come back on stream, and availability of "shovel ready" sites which may benefit from economic stimulus funds.Ms. Jayne is well respected in the environmental law community and her expertise was instrumental in revising the recently passed LSRP bill to include protections for redevelopers conducting due diligence for contaminated sites.

Sterns & Weinroth will be hosting the New Jersey Chapter of the Society of Women Environmental Professionals (NJSWEP) “Flash Update” regarding hot topics in NJDEP’s Site Remediation Program on June 3rd from 8:30-9:30 a.m.

On Tuesday, November 15, 2005, the Real Estate Practice Group presented a seminar at the Trenton Country Club on environmental insurance as a redevelopment tool. Real estate attorneys, Frank J. Petrino and Brian Mulligan, joined Jack Smith, a nationally recognized environmental risk manager, to discuss how environmental insurance can impact redevelopment project initiatives. The panel discussion included:
- The benefits of environmental insurance policies when developing Brownfields;
- How environmental insurance can support the transfer of environmental liability to third parties;
- How environmental insurance can help reduce and/or transfer potential exposures to increase your bottom-line; and
- Pricing for environmental insurance coverage.

Simon Kimmelman, Chair of the firm's Bankruptcy/Creditors' Rights Practice, served as a panelist for the seminar on hot topics in Chapter 11, presented at the annual New Jersey Bankruptcy Bench-Bar Conference in April, 2005.
Richard J. Van Wagner served as a panelist at the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education seminar, "Lobbying for Lawyers," held December 10, 2004, at the Lafayette Yard Marriott Hotel in Trenton. Approximately 50 Registered Legislative Agents, attorneys and others attended the program, which included a discussion of lobbying trends and updates in New Jersey's attorney-lobbying arena, as well as practice tips and methods to lead to successful client representation.
Susan Stryker was a featured speaker at the Insurance Council of New Jersey's 27th Annual Meeting and Conference, held November 5, 2004, at the Sheraton at Woodbridge Place in Iselin. Ms. Stryker participated in a panel discussion titled, "In the Courts," which focused on recent State Appellate and Supreme Court cases and their potential effect on workers' compensation, automobile, and commercial lines of insurance. She is a director of the firm and a member of the firm's Administrative/Governmental and Litigation practices, concentrating in Insurance Regulatory law.
Paul M. O'Gara, Chair of the firm's Gaming Practice and immediate past president of the International Association of Gaming Attorneys, spoke at the American Gaming Association's Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas. Mr. O'Gara presided over a session titled "Scrutiny of Public Companies in Gaming: How Much is Enough?" The panel presentation focused on corporate compliance issues facing the gaming industry, including Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and guidelines, as well as a discussion of safeguards that can be implemented to assure proper financial reporting.
Frank J. Petrino, Chair of the firm's Real Estate/Transactional Practice, moderated a seminar offered by the firm on June 24, 2004 on Redevelopment Law at the Trenton Country Club. The firm and its clients explored the current legal and practical issues involved in developing areas in need of redevelopment in New Jersey.
